Andrew Mounbatten-Windsor's bombshell interview with Emily Maitlis was revisited during a Channel 5 documentary. Prince Andrew: Where Did All the Money Go?, originally broadcast in 2025, aired once again this evening (February 20) - one day after the former Duke of York was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.
The documentary explores all aspects of Andrew's life, particularly how he funded his extravagant lifestyle. It also delved into his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the allegations made by Virginia Giuffre. Ms Giuffre, who died by suicide in April 2025, claimed she was sex trafficked by Epstein and forced to have sex with Andrew on three separate occasions.
Pressure mounted on Andrew to respond, and he eventually made the decision to take part in an interview with Maitlis on Newsnight.
Although many, including Buckingham Palace, reportedly recognised it was a bad decision, Express columnist Carole Malone explained in the documentary why Andrew chose to go ahead with the interview anyway.
She said: "For those of us in the media, we couldn't believe he was going to do it or the Palace allowed him to do it because they know he's not very smart either. But in his arrogance, he had conviced them that he could handle it."
During the interview, Andrew said: "I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady. None whatsoever."
When Maitlis repeated Ms Giuffre's allegation that she had danced with him and remembered him "profusely sweating", Andreew inadvertently drew further attention to himself with his now-infamous response.

"There's a slight problem with the sweating because I have a peculiar medical condition where I can't sweat," he claimed. He later alleged that he was at Pizza Express in Woking at the time Ms Giuffre claimed she had sex with him.
Photos then appeared of Andrew from the previous year leaving a nightclub, where he appeared to be sweating. Reflecting on the interview, Carole said: "He never showed one ounce of sorrow for those young girls and I think for all of us, that's what kind of smacked us in the face."
During the interview, Andrew was pressed on whether he regretted his friendship with Epstein, who took his own life in prison just three months prior.
He hesitated before admitting: "Now, still not."
A stunned Carole fumed: "How can you say that you don't regret your friendship with a convicted paedophile. It's just beyond belief. The crazy thing at the end of it was he thought he'd done very well. He thought it had all gone swimmingly."
Just days after the interview, Buckingham Palace announced that Andrew would be stepping down as a working royal.
