Another case related to alleged property tax fraud in the municipal council has come to light, prompting further scrutiny.

According to the complaint filed by the Municipal Commissioner at the Town Police Station, Anand Suvarna had paid ₹34,730 towards 12 years of pending property tax for his building (No. 17/5) located in Kalmadi on February 16. The amount was handed over to Shalini, who was working in the municipal office on an outsourced basis. She had reportedly issued a written acknowledgement dated October 16 confirming receipt of the tax payment.

Recently, after reading newspaper reports about a complaint being registered against individuals involved in tax fraud, Suvarna, along with his daughter Ashwini, checked the status of the payment on the property tax portal. They discovered that the tax amount had not been credited and was still shown as pending.

Upon verification, the Municipal Commissioner also confirmed that the dues remained unpaid in official records. When questioned, Shalini admitted to having received the tax amount from Suvarna and stated that she would repay it.

Subsequently, on February 16, she generated a new challan in Anand Suvarna’s name and paid ₹35,213 towards the pending tax.

In the complaint, the Municipal Commissioner alleged that Shalini had misused public tax money instead of remitting it to the government and had affixed a bank seal on the challan to make it appear as though the payment had been processed. It is further alleged that she acted in collusion with others, thereby cheating the government.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Town Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
