Death in Paradise star Ardal O'Hanlon has admitted he "can't remember" if he has won a BAFTA or not.

The actor and comedian made the confession during an appearance on ITV's Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh on Sunday (February 22). The topic came up as Alan and his guests Ardal and actress Greta Scacchi talked about the fact that the BAFTAs are taking place in London on Sunday night.

Alan was joking about not being up for one of the gongs himself, saying: "So, we've got to talk a bit about BAFTAs, haven't we? BAFTAs coming up. Now, I'm talking just to, you know, I mean, I'll just sit quietly here on my own, really. BAFTA winner, over there."

Ardal, who is known for playing DI Jack Mooney in BBC crime drama Death in Paradise, replied: "BAFTA winner, yeah, I think so."

"I can't remember," he went on. "I'm certainly a nominee. It's a long time ago," he laughed.

The comedian - who also starred as Father Dougal McGuire in Father Ted - then laughed: "Yeah, well, for the purposes of this show, yes, I've won numerous BAFTAs!

"But yeah, no, I was certainly nominated for a BAFTA many, many years ago, yeah."

Ardal said of the awards show: "I mean, like for me, you know, it was the first sort of big thing I did on British TV all those years ago. And it was Father Ted.

"And it's just like you just pinch yourself. You're in this room with all these incredibly talented people. People that you have admired from your couch like for a decade beforehand. And suddenly you're hobnobbing with them."

He continued: "I remember my wife came with me to the first BAFTA event that I was invited to.

"And she ended up in the bathroom chatting to Joan Collins, they became great mates in the bathroom. She had grown up watching Joan Collins in Dynasty, you know. And there she was like swapping eye shadow with Joan Collins in the bathroom."

Father Ted was a BAFTA-winner during its run, and Ardal was nominated for his performance in the sitcom in 1999.
