Airtel Money has received the license to operate as an NBFC from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on February 13, 2026. investment of 20 thousand crores

Bharti Airtel said the announcement of major plans for NBFC Airtel Money Ltd reflects its commitment to reduce the credit gap in India. Capital of Rs 20,000 crore will be infused into this NBFC in the next few years. Airtel said that in the last two years it has developed a strong Lending Service Provider (LSP) model through its digital platform. Loans worth more than Rs 9,000 crore have been distributed so far through this platform. According to the company, loan default rates have remained under control due to strong credit and risk assessment models, disciplined portfolio management and real-time risk monitoring.

What is the target of the company?

Airtel Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal said the success of this platform has proven the company's ability to create national impact by combining technology, data and customer trust. He said that the aim is to create a reliable and innovative digital loan business through NBFC expansion. According to Care Edge Ratings, the organized loan to gross domestic product (GDP) ratio in India stands at 53 percent, indicating vast potential for credit expansion. Airtel said the NBFC's delivery ecosystem will remain integrated with the LSP platform but clear separation between the two will be maintained at the operational level.
