It is starting to get warmer in the UK, which means many people are starting to book their summer holiday, and it is possible to travel somewhere tropical on a budget. One option is Zanzibar Island, also known as Unguja, a stunning island off the east coast of Africa, just north of Tanzania.

Zanzibar Island is famous for its beaches, where the sand is incredibly soft, making it perfect for anyone just wanting to find somewhere sunny to relax. Paje beach on the island has been named one of the best beaches in the world, thanks to its scenery where you can see palm trees swaying, glittering turquoise waters and a breathtaking view of the sunset over the Indian Ocean. However, Zanzibar is an incredible place to explore, especially if you love animals, as it is home to Jozani Forest, a national park that is home to animals you cannot see anywhere else in the world.

The red colobus monkey lives only on Zanzibar and is known for its unique red-striped fur and its tendency to be quite vocal; you can often hear it calling to other members of its group.

You will be able to find lots of different wild animals, such as blue monkeys, bush babies, elephant shrews, and a variety of exotic birds.

Zanzibar's east coast is also known to have a large colony of colourful starfish, and you can take a boat trip to snorkel with these unique creatures.

It is a fantastic place for anyone who enjoys snorkelling and scuba diving, as the island has coral reefs along most of its coastline that are home to parrotfish, clownfish, angel fish and sometimes even reef sharks.

Many visitors also enjoy hiring out a transparent kayak where you can paddle about the island and take photos of the breathtaking blue sea.

Zanzibar has also been nicknamed the Spice Island as it is one of the largest producers of cloves, but also grows cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, mace and black pepper.

You can visit spice farms to see the island's lush crop gardens and take a tour where you can taste fresh spices directly from the trees.

It is also worth simply wandering around Stone Town, the capital city, as it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its unique Swahili architecture, influenced by Indian, Arab and European cultures.

Stone Town is known for its lively markets, winding pathways and beautifully carved wooden doors on the buildings. It is also the home city of Freddie Mercury, and you can visit his childhood home and explore a museum dedicated to the rock star.

Many people love Zanzibar due to its scorching hot weather and at this time of year temperatures are usually around 30C with it being 25C at nighttime.

However, many tourists love Zanzibar as it is known for being quite cheap, and on TripAdvisor, people shared it is very easy to eat out for only a couple of pounds.

One visitor said: "A local beer is about £2.50 in a nice bar. A glass of wine (always South African) is a bit more. Soft drinks are fairly cheap. The local ginger beer (Tangawizi) is worth experiencing."

Another person said: "My experience is that for dinner and drinks (a two course meal, a glass of wine and lots of bottled water) one would expect to pay around £10 per head in Zanzibar, including Stone Town."

Someone else wrote: "In the very local style places we are eating: large bottles of water for $1.50, Sprite/Coke $2, juice $3, beer and Savannah cider $3 and a glass of wine $3-$4."
