Former India opening batter Shikhar Dhawan tied the knot for the second time with his longtime girlfriend, Sophie Shine, in Delhi. Those familiar with Shikhar’s past are aware of his traumatic divorce, but he has moved on and started a new chapter. However, social media users have been digging up tidbits and sharing statements from his first marriage.
Many social media handles reported that Shikhar’s first wife, Aesha, allegedly told him he would never find a girl and marry again. But as fate would have it, he is now married.
‘Never carried baggage from the past’: Shikhar Dhawan calls out fake quotes about his personal life after second marriage
Shikhar Dhawan read the viral Instagram posts and news and took to Instagram to release a statement, clarifying that the claims are false and urging users to refrain from sharing insensitive statements in his name.
“I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past, be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past,” wrote Dhawan on his social media accounts.
“This is a new chapter in my life, and I feel truly grateful for the love and blessings I have received from my fans, friends, family, well-wishers, and the media. I strongly urge people not to trade on my name with clickbait, insensitive, and false statements on social media. Let’s spread love and positivity. Thank you,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sophie and Shikhar have been sharing photos and videos from their reception on social media. Despite the outpouring of wishes and congratulatory messages, a section of the media continues to focus on his past.
Dhawan married Shine in a private ceremony on Saturday, February 21. He was previously married to Australia-based kickboxer Aesha Mukerji. Before marrying Shikhar, Aesha was married to an Australian businessman, with whom she has two daughters.
Dhawan and Aesha reportedly met on social media and got married in October 2012. Two years later, they became parents to a boy. However, in 2020, reports surfaced that the couple was heading for a divorce due to irreconcilable differences. Dhawan was eventually granted a divorce in October 2023.
