PM Modi Israel Visit 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on an important two-day visit to Israel on 25-26 February. Even before his arrival, the Israeli Parliament has been decorated with the lights of the Indian tricolor. The visit is his second visit to Israel after the historic visit in 2017 and the first during his third term. Amidst the changing geopolitical situation in West Asia and Iran-America tension, this visit is being considered to give a new direction to India-Israel relations.
An important security agreement is expected to be signed between the two countries during this visit. In the proposed agreement, there will be special emphasis on sharing of sensitive technology and joint production. According to media reports, Israel may agree to defense deals worth about $8.6 billion with India by 2026. This will make it India’s second largest arms supplier after France.
These possible deals may include SPICE 1000 precision guidance bombs, Rampage air-to-surface missile (250 km range), Air LoRa air-launched ballistic missile and Icebreaker missile system with 300 km range.
India is planning to buy additional Heron MK-2 Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drones from Israel, according to reports. This drone can fly for about 45 hours at a time, carry a load of about 470 kg and reach a height of 35,000 feet. It is capable of operating in all weather conditions.
Israel has also proposed to transfer the technology of Iron Dome air defense system to India. It is a mobile air defense system, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries.
Iron Dome is designed to stop short-range rocket, missile and drone attacks. It includes radar, control center and missile launcher. Tamir interceptor missile destroys the enemy attack in the air itself. Its success rate is said to be around 90 percent.
Upon reaching Israel on February 25, Prime Minister Modi will be welcomed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara. There will be a bilateral meeting between the two leaders. After this the Prime Minister will address the Knesset in Jerusalem, which is considered a special honor given to a foreign leader.
During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet top Israeli officials and a private dinner will be hosted in his honour. The next day he will meet President Isaac Herzog and pay tribute at the Holocaust memorial Vashem Memorial Center.
Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are likely to be signed during this visit. According to reports, a special mechanism can be developed under the agreements, which will open doors to new cooperation areas.
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has also welcomed Prime Minister Modi’s visit. He wrote on social media that the whole of Israel is excited to welcome Prime Minister Modi and India-Israel relations are not just strategic but a symbol of deep friendship.
