A total of 4,672 workers in the district have registered under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana, under which beneficiaries will receive a monthly pension of ₹3,000 after the age of 60.

The central government scheme, aimed at providing financial security to workers in the unorganized sector, is being implemented effectively in the district. Labour Officer K.B. Mishra informed that officials have been directed to enroll the maximum number of eligible workers to ensure wider coverage of the scheme.

The pension scheme has been in operation since 22 July 2019 and is open to workers aged 18 to 40 years who earn a monthly income of up to ₹15,000. Workers who are not covered under PF, ESIC, or NPS are eligible to apply. Registration is completely free of cost and can be done through nearby Common Service Centres (CSCs).

Contributions and Benefits

Under the scheme, registered workers are required to contribute ₹55 to ₹200 per month, depending on their age at the time of enrollment. An equal contribution is made by the central government, helping create a secure pension fund.

After attaining the age of 60, beneficiaries receive a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹3,000, reducing financial dependence in old age. In case of the beneficiary’s death before pension commencement, the spouse becomes eligible for a family pension, ensuring continued financial support.

The Labour Department has appealed to all eligible unorganized sector workers in the district to take advantage of this welfare scheme and secure a stable and dignified life after retirement.
