65 year old Bhagatram Sharma, a tourist from Bhopal lost his life in a tragic road accident in North Goa. This accident happened on February 23, 2026 at Happy Bar Junction in Assagaon. The rented Mahindra Thar SUV collided with his family’s Hyundai i20.

Sharma was going towards Para village in an i20 car. He died on the spot due to serious injuries sustained in the collision. Two more members of the family suffered minor injuries and were admitted to hospital, while the five-month-old baby in the car survived without any injuries, but is still under medical observation.

The speeding Thar, allegedly driven by 19-year-old Shaurya Goyal from Delhi, hit the rear/side of the i20 after the driver lost control at the busy junction. Goa Police seized the vehicle (GA-03-V-5695) and registered an FIR on charges of rash and negligent driving causing death. Goyal was arrested and later granted bail, and the investigation is ongoing.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the occupants of the Thar tried to change seats immediately after the collision—they claimed that a woman was driving and she stepped out while a man took over—to avoid responsibility. In a video viral on social media, a boy is seen on the phone saying, “Papa, I was driving… another car was coming at the intersection,” while bystanders confronted the group, leading to tension until police intervened.

Officials are examining CCTV footage, forensic details, witness statements and clips from the junction to trace the exact driver and the incident. The incident has sparked anger over reckless driving in tourist areas and alleged attempts to shirk responsibility, raising concerns over road safety in Goa.
