Veteran Bollywood star Ajay Devgn has built a remarkable career spanning over three decades. From action and romance to comedy and drama, he has consistently impressed audiences with his versatility. Ever since his debut in Phool Aur Kaante, Ajay Devgn has remained a powerful presence in Indian cinema, delivering memorable performances even after 35 years in the industry.

While Ajay Devgn is best known for his heroic roles, he has also portrayed villains with equal conviction. One such role not only shocked audiences but also demanded immense physical and mental discipline from the actor. In this particular film, Ajay Devgn had to shoot several scenes with restricted vision—using only one eye. This surprising revelation was later shared by his makeup artist Harish during an interview.

The Film That Changed His Look Completely

The film in question is Khakee, released on January 23, 2004. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the action-packed drama featured a powerful ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Tusshar Kapoor. Ajay Devgn played the ruthless antagonist, a role that stood out sharply against his usual image.

Shooting With One Eye: A Risky Transformation

To give Ajay Devgn a menacing and distinctive look, director Rajkumar Santoshi decided to cover one of his eyes with a patch. This creative choice significantly altered Ajay’s appearance but also created real challenges during filming. With one eye covered, Ajay had limited vision on set, making action sequences and movement particularly difficult. In several scenes, he was also made to wear dark glasses, further restricting his eyesight. Despite these hurdles, Ajay delivered a chilling and convincing performance that elevated the film’s impact.

Audience Love and Box Office Success

Even 22 years after its release, Khakee remains a fan-favorite action thriller. The film was made on an estimated budget of around ₹26 crore and went on to collect approximately ₹50 crore worldwide, making it a commercial success. Ajay Devgn’s intense villainous portrayal is still remembered as one of the strongest negative roles of his career.
