With Holi travel rush building across northern India, passengers planning rail journeys should double-check their schedules. In a major pre-festival update, Indian Railways has temporarily cancelled several trains passing through Delhi between February 26 and February 28, 2026, potentially disrupting travel plans for thousands heading home for the festival.

Every year, demand for train tickets spikes sharply before Holi as people travel from metro cities to their hometowns. Routes connecting Delhi with states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and neighboring regions are especially crowded. Because of this sudden surge, even small operational changes can affect a large number of passengers. Officials have therefore advised travelers to verify train status before leaving for the station to avoid inconvenience.

Why Were These Trains Cancelled?

Railway authorities stated that the cancellations are due to essential infrastructure work on Bridge No. 55 located between Ghevara and Bahadurgarh stations in the Delhi division. The project involves installation of an RCC slab and requires a temporary power and traffic block on the route. During this block period, train movement through that section must be suspended for safety reasons.

Since the work cannot be postponed and must be completed within a limited window, officials decided to cancel or regulate several services for a few days. More than a dozen trains are affected by the maintenance schedule.

Fully Cancelled Trains

The following trains will remain completely cancelled on specified dates:

  • Train No. 14323 – New Delhi to Rohtak Junction (Cancelled till Feb 28)
  • Train No. 14324 – Rohtak Junction to New Delhi (Cancelled Feb 28)
  • Train No. 64912 – Jind to New Delhi (Cancelled Feb 28)

  • Train No. 54035 – Delhi Junction to Jakhal Junction (Cancelled Feb 28)
  • Train No. 54033 – Delhi Junction to Narwana Junction (Cancelled Feb 28)
Partially Cancelled or Short-Terminated Trains

Some services will operate only on partial routes instead of their full journey:

  • Train No. 14732 – Bathinda to Delhi Junction will run only up to Rohtak on Feb 28.
  • Train No. 12481 – Delhi Junction to Sri Ganganagar will start from Rohtak instead of Delhi.
Route Diversions and Modified Operations

A few trains will still run but with changed routes or curtailed destinations:

  • Train No. 14731 – Delhi Junction to Bathinda will operate from Rohtak instead of Delhi.
  • Train No. 12482 – Sri Ganganagar to Delhi Junction will terminate at Rohtak and not proceed to Delhi.
  • Train No. 54036 – Jakhal to Delhi Junction will run only up to Jind. Passengers traveling beyond Jind must arrange alternate transport.
What Passengers Should Do

Railway officials strongly recommend passengers:

  • Check live train status online or via official apps before departure
  • Reach stations only after confirmation
  • Consider alternate routes or dates if their train is affected

Travel experts say such temporary disruptions are common during infrastructure upgrades, especially when major routes are involved. While inconvenient in the short term, these upgrades improve track safety and long-term operational efficiency.

Festival Rush Makes Planning Crucial

With Holi just days away, trains are already running near full capacity. Last-minute cancellations can leave travelers stranded if they are unaware of schedule changes. Authorities emphasize that passengers should remain alert to announcements and updates issued by railway zones and divisions.

Bottom Line:
The pre-Holi period is one of the busiest travel seasons in India, and these temporary cancellations could impact thousands of passengers. If you plan to travel between February 26 and 28, confirm your train’s status beforehand to avoid last-minute surprises and ensure a smooth journey.
