The Palace faces awkward questions if Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's potential removal from the line of succession is discussed in Parliament, an expert has revealed. While Andrew is currently eighth in line to the throne, it is believed this could soon change.

Many have called for the former prince, who was arrested and released under investigation last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office, to be removed from the line of succession. It has been reported that the UK Government is considering introducing legislation to enable this change; however, no action will be taken until after the police investigation. Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing and the accusations against him.

While nothing is yet set in stone, Dr Craig Prescott - a specialist in UK constitutional law who focuses on the role of the monarchy - has revealed whether there is a risk that an MP might table an amendment to also remove Harry from the line of succession.

He told The Express: "It's a distinct possibility. There's always a risk that a mischievous MP might well table such an amendment; that's one reason against not going with legislation in the autumn to remove Andrew's titles.

"They found ways to do it without legislation, and no doubt that's one reason, because once you start with the legislative process, you know it's its own process, the monarchy is not in control with that, and the Government doesn't have a majority in the House of Lords.

"And so at least these amendments could be tabled that are awkward for the Palace and for the Government, even if they do vote them down using the Government's majority in the Commons. They're arguments that I don't think either the Government or the Palace would really want to have in the Lords or the Commons."

Andrew is currently eighth-in-line to the throne and has not commented on calls to remove him from the line of succession.

The Royal Family has also not passed comment on calls for Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles last year, to be removed from the line of succession.

The police investigation is ongoing.
