It is the month of Phalgun and Holashtak has started. Colors are visible everywhere. Somewhere Pichkaris are being sold, somewhere Holi Milan celebrations are being organised. What is the auspicious time of Holika Dahan?

Acharya Ashok Pandey explains, ‘Holika Dahan is worshiped at an auspicious time on the evening before Holi. This year Holika Dahan can be done after 6.47 pm. The auspicious time of Holika Dahan will be from 6:47 pm to 8:50 pm on March 3, 2026. Holika Dahan can be done during this period.

How to worship Holika Dahan?

Acharya Ashok Pandey said, ‘Generally people start burning Holika without any rituals. This should not be done. According to the scriptures, Holika Dahan starts with a resolution. Holika Dahan is described in Vishnu Purana and Bhagwat. Accordingly, the ritual of Holika Dahan should be done as part of a religious process.

Acharya Ashok Pandey said, ‘Take a resolution, remember Lord Vishnu and Lord Ganesha. Make three or seven rounds of Holika with raw yarn and wrap the yarn. Apply tilak with roli-chawal, show flowers, incense-lamps and offer food. Then light the fire in Holika. Do three parikramas with the family, apply ubtan, burn negativity by offering grains, jaggery etc. in the fire. Bring the ashes home and apply them.

 

What are the mantras for Holika Dahan?

‘Om Holikayai Namah, ‘Om Prahaladayai Namah, ‘Om Nrishimhayai Namah. You have been made a holiday by fools who are frightened of Ahakuta Therefore I shall worship her who bestows all happiness and all happiness.

When is Holi?

Pandit Mayesh Dwivedi said, Holi is celebrated on the full moon day of Phalgun month. This date is falling on 4th March. Holi should be celebrated on this day.

What is the method of Holi puja?

Pandit Mayesh Dwivedi said, ‘Holi worship should be done facing east or north. After the daily rituals, with a pure mind, go to the Holika Dahan place. Offer Arghya and pray for the happiness and prosperity of the house. After burning, seeing the flame of the fire and applying its ashes on the forehead is considered very auspicious. Apply ash on the feet of your elders and on the forehead of the younger ones.

 

Which mantras to chant?

While offering arghya to Holika, recite this mantra, ‘Ahkuta bhayatrastai: krita tvam holi balishai:. Therefore I will worship you, the giver of happiness and happiness.

Pandit Mayesh Dwivedi said that Lord Nrishimha protected devotee Prahlad, just like that, he should protect us so we should chant the mantra ‘Om Nrishimhaya Vidmahe Vajrankhaya Dhimahi Tanno Nrishimha: Prachodyat’

On Holi, Acharya Ashok Pandey says, ‘After Holi, a new year begins. There has been a tradition of reading the almanac in the evening on the day of Holi. It is believed that on this day, by reading the almanac, the new year is auspicious, the position of the planets is known, and the horoscope is read. In the evening, one should apply gulal on the feet of elders and seek their blessings. One should go to the places of God and pray that the new year be auspicious.

Are the rules of play different at home, street and square?

Pandit Mayesh Dwivedi says, ‘Don’t feel bad, the story of Holi Hai is fake. Holi is not a festival of indecency, but of self-regulation. No one should be touched indecently in the name of Holi on this day. Touch should be avoided as far as possible. Apply colors to friends, seek blessings from elders.
