Ravi Shastri: Indian cricket legend Ravi Shastri is going to get a big honour. In honor of Ravi Shastri, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has taken an important decision, the Level 1 stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, which is located just below the press box, will now be named after Ravi Shastri. This decision was taken in the Apex Council meeting of MCA. Apart from this, it has also been decided to dedicate three gates of Wankhede Stadium in the names of respected players.
Ravi Shastri is one of those legends of Mumbai cricket, who took Indian cricket to new heights as a batsman, captain, coach and commentator. He played domestic cricket for Mumbai and performed brilliantly in 80 Test and 150 ODI matches for India. During his tenure as coach (2017-2021), Team India achieved many historic achievements, including Test series wins in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21, reaching the semi-finals in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik said on this decision, 'The foundation of Mumbai cricket has been laid by our legends. It is our duty to honor those who brought glory to the city and the country. The proposal to name the Level 1 stand below the press box after Ravi Shastri is a tribute to his invaluable contribution as a player, leader and coach.
Along with this, MCA has also decided to dedicate three gates of Wankhede Stadium in the names of respected players. Gate number 3 will be named after Dilip Sardesai, who led India to its first Test series win by scoring 642 runs on the West Indies tour in 1971. Gate number 6 will be named after Eknath Solkar, who was famous for his brilliant catching at short leg. Gate number 5 will be dedicated to Diana Edulji, who played an important role in women's cricket and captained India in 22 international matches.
