Lawsuit Against Social Media Companies: These days a case is going on in a court in Los Angeles which has shocked the entire world. A 20-year-old girl has claimed that social media addiction took away her innocence and childhood from her. In this era of social media, this case can become an example to decide the responsibility of digital platforms. The girl says that because of Instagram and YouTube her whole life changed and she became mentally broken.

Childhood innocence and digital addiction

This girl named Kelly told the jury that she started using YouTube at the age of just 6 and Instagram at the age of 9. She alleged that despite being so young, these big companies had no effective methods or obstacles to stop her. She used to check her phone as soon as she woke up in the morning and kept scrolling on social media non-stop till late night.

serious injury to mental health

The effect of this addiction became so bad that by the age of 10, Callie had started harming herself and doing things like cutting herself. He suffered from a disease called body dysmorphia in which a person starts worrying too much about his physical appearance all the time. Crying, she told that before coming on social media she never had such scary and suicidal thoughts.

increasing distance from family

Kelly’s lawyer Mark Lanier said in the court that because of social media the girl had completely stopped connecting and talking to her family. All his time was spent on the mobile screen, which had a very negative impact on his family relations and studies. She was so lost in her own world that she did not care about the people around her.

Meta’s defense and legal turn

On the other hand, Meta’s lawyers argued that the real root of Kelly’s mental problems lies in his family life and not in social media. Recently, Mark Zuckerberg was also rigorously interrogated by the jury for about 7 hours, due to which this case has become even more complicated. The verdict of this case is expected in March which will decide how responsible the companies are for the safety of children.
