From today, messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal will now start from the same mobile number, which is active. This means that the mobile number from which the WhatsApp account was created must now have the same SIM in your mobile. If you have removed the SIM from your mobile, turned it off or inserted it in another handset, your WhatsApp will stop. This rule has been implemented across India from today.

The purpose of this decision taken by the government is to stop cyber fraud, protect users from digital threats. Note that WhatsApp will not work if the SIM is inactive or switched off. From today WhatsApp, Telegram account will work only when you have SIM card in your phone and the most important thing is that the SIM card is active. The Ministry of Telecom announced the SIM binding rules on November 28. After that, the Ministry of Telecom had given 90 days time to the social media and messaging platform companies. This tenure has ended on February 28. The new rule has been implemented from today i.e. from March 1. WhatsApp has not officially announced this yet. But earlier this week, WhatsApp announced that it has started testing SIM ban rules in India.

The government is trying to say that these new rules can help curb cyber fraud. This step is for the welfare of the common people and will not cause any harm to them. But users have to follow some important rules so that their account is not closed. WhatsApp and Telegram will not work on your phone if the SIM is not active in the phone. WhatsApp will stop working if SIM is removed and inserted into another phone. If you remove the SIM, WhatsApp may become temporarily inactive and you will have to re-insert the SIM in your handset and start the login process.
