On Monday, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma greeted the public in the Gohpur area as part of the third day of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Blessing Journey. This initiative is receiving significant public support ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Thousands gathered in Gohpur to welcome the Chief Minister, expressing their support by showering flowers along the route. In a post shared on Monday, which included a video of the large crowd welcoming him, Sarma humorously remarked that while he is not Santa Claus, he always has gifts for his supporters.
Earlier, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming response received on Sunday, Sarma noted that citizens have openly thanked him for providing land rights and employment over the past five years. He stated, 'I am extremely grateful to the people of Assam. The procession continued until 12:30 AM, and there were people everywhere. The public has given us their full support. I never imagined that so many would come out. People are acknowledging the work we have done in the last five years, and I hope this time they will grant us a stronger mandate.'
He further mentioned that many individuals approach him to share how they have received jobs or land, or to thank him for taking strict action against illegal immigrants. He emphasized the government's commitment to evict all illegal encroachers. 'Many people tell me they have found jobs or land, or thank me for our tough stance against illegal immigrants. The public is backing us,' he added.
During the journey, the Chief Minister reiterated the government's pledge to reclaim five lakh bighas of encroached land over the next five years. He stressed that land leases will only be granted to indigenous people, sending a clear message regarding the protection of Assam's land and identity.
