New Delhi. Expressing concern over the current situation in the Middle East, India has said that about one crore Indian citizens live and work in the Gulf region, their security and welfare is our top priority. We cannot ignore any development that has a negative impact on them. Our trade and energy supplies also pass through this region. Any major disruption could have a serious impact on the Indian economy. As a country whose citizens play a key role in the global workforce, India strongly opposes attacks on merchant vessels. Some Indian citizens have lost their lives or are missing as a result of such attacks in the last few days.
Along with this, India has appealed to find a solution through dialogue and diplomacy. The statement issued by the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that in recent times, we have not only seen an increase in the intensity of the conflict, but there have also been attacks in other countries. The death toll in this conflict is increasing and normal life and economic activities have come to a standstill. As a close neighbor that plays a vital role in the security and stability of the region, these developments are extremely worrying. India strongly reiterates its call for dialogue and diplomacy. We raise our voice unequivocally in favor of an early end to the conflict.

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said that Indian Embassies and Consulates in the affected countries are in constant touch with Indian citizens and community organizations and are issuing regular advisories as required. He has also provided all possible assistance to the people trapped in the conflict. Embassies and Consulates will continue to play an active role in resolving various consular aspects of this conflict. We are in touch with governments in the region as well as other key partners. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has discussed with his counterparts. The government will closely monitor the changing situation and take necessary decisions in the national interest.
