Thalapathy Vijay has finally commented on the significant postponement of Jana Nayagan, a highly awaited Tamil political action thriller that is also intended to be his farewell film before he transitions into a full-time political role. During a gathering of thousands of TVK members in Thanjavur, he expressed his gratitude to supporters who stood by him amid the ongoing controversy. The film, helmed by director H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, is currently stalled due to legal disputes with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding its politically sensitive themes. This delay has serious financial and cultural repercussions for Tamil Nadu's cinema, which was anticipating a major release during Pongal.
Vijay's First Public Comments on the Film's DelaySpeaking to around 4,900 TVK members at an outdoor event in Ayyasamipatti, Thanjavur district, Vijay acknowledged the obstacles faced by Jana Nayagan. He noted that these challenges began during his rally in Karur and thanked his fans for their unwavering support. He also expressed appreciation for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who has publicly backed the film. Recently, MK Stalin criticized the CBFC, claiming it is influenced by the central government and compared it to other central agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax department.
This marks the first occasion Vijay has addressed the film's delay. The release of Jana Nayagan was postponed indefinitely due to a significant conflict with the CBFC. Initially, the board recommended minor edits, but an anonymous complaint led to the film being referred to a revising committee just days before its scheduled January 9 release. KVN Productions sought intervention from the Madras High Court for clearance. Although a single judge initially ruled in favor of the film, a subsequent appeal by the CBFC resulted in a stay, creating ongoing legal ambiguity. The main issues raised were related to politically sensitive content. The delay is estimated to have incurred losses of around Rs 100 crore for the Tamil film industry, depriving theaters of a potential Pongal blockbuster.
