A fire broke out in dry bushes near the Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport complex in Indore on Wednesday evening, creating a state of alert in the area for some time. The fire spread rapidly and within no time the smoke and flames became visible far away.
As soon as information about the incident was received, fire brigade teams were sent to the spot. Airport police station also reached the area and necessary action was initiated regarding control and security.
According to the airport management, the arson incident took place in the non-operational area of the airport, where the fire spread in grass and dry vegetation. Under administrative coordination, immediate help was provided with the help of District Magistrate Indore. The management clarified that there was no loss of life or property in this incident and only dry grass was burnt.
People nearby say that there is a large amount of dry bushes present in the airport premises and nearby areas. Due to heat and prolonged dry weather, the risk of fire outbreak in such areas increases. This is the reason why even small sparks can spread rapidly.
Local residents also told that a similar incident of bush fire had come to light a few days ago. Even in the present incident, the exact cause of the fire is not yet clear.
According to officials, Airport Fire Service and Municipal Corporation Fire Service jointly extinguished the fire. The fire was completely brought under control in about one and a half hour after continuous water cannon and area cordoning off. At present the area is normal, but monitoring of dry grassy areas is considered important.
