In the culinary landscape, the UK is undeniably associated with fish and chips, with every corner of the country boasting exceptional chippies, each seemingly superior to the next.
Cornwall especially is brimming with outstanding chippies, hardly surprising given its coastal location. The saying rings true - nobody prepares fresh seafood quite like Cornwall.
Little wonder, then, that two Cornish chippies have secured positions on one of the UK's most coveted fish and chip awards lists, claiming their spots in the 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants list for 2026.
Earning their places in Fry Magazine's Fry Awards for 2026, these two Cornwall treasures serve exceptional food adored by residents and tourists alike.
Harbour Lights Fish and Chips, Falmouth
The first Cornwall chippie to feature on the list is Harbour Lights Fish and Chips in Falmouth.
Boasting an impressive 4.3 rating out of 5 on Tripadvisor, this Cornish treasure has received considerable acclaim.
On Arwenack Street in Falmouth, the chippy has accumulated glowing reviews from customers who cannot stop singing its praises. From Cornish chips, calamari, and crispy fried chicken to their renowned Cornish Hake, vegan burgers, and wholetail scampi - there's an abundance on offer at this Cornish fish and chip establishment, reports Cornwall Live
The delicious food isn't the sole attraction at this chippy - the stunning vistas offer a magnificent backdrop whilst you enjoy your golden cod. The dog-friendly venue is perfect for bigger parties as well.
After making a commitment over a decade ago to serve only sustainably sourced fish, Harbour Lights Fish and Chips' dedication was acknowledged with the 2023 accolade for being the most sustainable Fish and Chip shop throughout England.
There's an abundance of enthusiastic customer feedback for this establishment, with one diner noting in a Google Review: "Brilliant service, food excellent - 4 adults and 4 children and every single one of us enjoyed the meal. Lovely young girl serving us. Excellent location too, amazing view. Would thoroughly recommend. My partner said top 3 curry sauce he's ever had (and he loves curry sauce! ) Very welcoming for our dog too!"
Another satisfied customer said about the award-winning chippy on Tripadvisor: "A sublime experience. We have used Harbour Lights many times but this last visit was absolutely superb. We decided to eat in and by sheer luck,we're shown to a table by the window overlooking the harbour. A friend who was with us was a bit sceptical that we wanted to have fish and chips but she had to eat her words!!
"2 of us had haddock and 1 had pollock. All were beautifully cooked in the lightest batter we've ever had which was sublime. The fish inside was so amazing that you could taste the freshness. All 3 plates were totally clean at the end as even the chips were freshly cooked and not so great a portion that we were overfaced- we had asked for a smaller portion of chips but it couldn't be guaranteed. Well done to all concerned!!"
One Google Review of the establishment says: "Dined in to eat probably the best fish and chips in Cornwall and trust me I've eaten a few over the years the restaurant is clean and tidy well staffed service was prompt and food cooked to order I had haddock and chips with curry sauce highly recommend the sauce no signs of grease on the fish batter nice and crisp and chips just how you want them with a crunch soft and fluffy in the middle if in Falmouth pay a visit."
Seasmiths in Town, Wadebridge
The second Cornwall chippy which emerged victorious at the Fry Awards 2026 is Seasmiths in Town, situated in the town of Wadebridge.
Since launching in July 2022, this Cornish chip shop has thoroughly proved its worth. In 2023, within less than 12 months of operation, Seasmiths secured itself a position in the 10 Best Fish and Chip Restaurants list at the Fry Awards 2023, an accomplishment it repeated this year.
On Molesworth Street, near the renowned 18-mile Camel Trail, Seasmiths occupies a prime position in Wadebridge's centre. Open Monday to Saturday, with late trading Thursday through Saturday, Seasmiths has become a local institution, attracting substantial custom from St Mabyn, St Tudy, St Minver, Rock and beyond, their website confirms.
The chippy sources fresh regional ingredients and offers sustainably-sourced haddock, hake and cod paired with its celebrated triple-cooked chips.
Additional crowd-pleasing menu items feature sausages, chicken goujons, mushy peas and meat-free alternatives including halloumi burgers. Their house-made sauces have garnered particular acclaim, with the tartare sauce and katsu curry sauce proving especially popular.
A Google Review says: "Faultless.... Food is excellent and service too. Can clearly see why this is an award winning restaurant. No hesitation to recommend."
Another satisfied customer writes: "Came as part of a family holiday in November with my parents, partner and mother in law. Warm, friendly, and super cute atmosphere with gorgeous decor. A obvious favourite with the locals too! Portion sizes were just right, and the fish was beautiful, succulent and flakey!"
They added: "The table had haddock, cod, hake, scampi and fish of the day accompanied by mushy peas which were silky soft - empty plates all round. Honestly, it's the kind of fish and chip shop you end up thinking about long after you've finished eating. An absolute must-visit!".
Yet another delighted customer posted on Tripadvisor: "Fantastic food served up with a warm friendly service. Spotless restaurant and great location. Our go to for family special occasions. Lovely crunchy chips, crisp batter and great veggie options too ( southern fried cauliflower) Curry sauce is the BEST! 10/10".
