Congress has attacked the state government over the figures of deaths of workers in Madhya Pradesh. Umang Singhar said that about 69 thousand workers have died in the state during one year. Describing this figure as “heartbreaking”, he has accused the state government of being negligent towards the safety and health of the workers.
The Leader of Opposition said that the BJP government, which has been in power for two decades, makes tall claims of development, but the reality is that the hardworking laborers of the state are losing their lives due to unsafe work, poor health facilities and government negligence. He questioned whether the life of laborers has become so cheap in Madhya Pradesh.
Umang Singhar has expressed serious concern over the increasing number of deaths of workers in Madhya Pradesh. Quoting media reports, he said that 69 thousand workers have died in the state in one year, which is equivalent to an average of about 190 deaths every day. A large number of natural and accidental deaths have been reported among registered workers. Last year, about 57 thousand normal deaths and about 5800 accidental deaths were recorded, taking the total number to more than 60 thousand. Congress has targeted the state government regarding this issue.
The Leader of Opposition said that this is not just numbers but the story of broken dreams of thousands of families and orphaned children. He said that the BJP government, which has been in power for two decades, makes tall claims of development, but the reality is that the working class of the state is living amidst unsafe working conditions, weak health facilities and government apathy. The Congress leader questioned the government whether the life of workers in Madhya Pradesh has become so cheap that their deaths become mere statistics. He has said that it is the responsibility of the state government to ensure safe workplace, health facilities and social security for the workers.
