New Delhi: Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan is once again making headlines—not on the big screen, but on the land records of Ayodhya.

Reports say the 83‑year‑old megastar has bought a new plot of land in the temple‑town for around Rs 35 – Rs 40 crore, marking his latest high‑value real‑estate move in a city that has surged as a spiritual and investment hub after the Ram Mandir inauguration.

What the deal involves

According to Hindustan Times and other reports, Bachchan has purchased a 25,000 square feet plot in Ayodhya, located near The Sarayu, a luxury “plotted development” by Mumbai‑based firm The House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL).  Sources quoted by the paper say the deal is valued at nearly Rs 40 crore, though some later reports round the figure to about Rs 35 crore in short descriptions.  HoABL has declined to comment publicly on the deal, while the actor could not be reached for a direct statement.

Part of a bigger Ayodhya plan

This is not Bachchan’s first Ayodhya purchase. In 2024, he bought a 10,000 sq ft plot in The Sarayu for RsR14.5 crore, and earlier, he picked up a 5,372 sq ft piece in Haveli Avadh for about Rs 4.54 crore before the Ram Temple’s inauguration.  A separate report in The Times of India also mentioned that a larger 54,454 sq ft parcel was bought in the name of the Harivansh Rai Bachchan Trust, with speculation that it could be used to build a memorial to his father, the famous Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan.

 Why Ayodhya is hot

Analysts point out that Ayodhya’s real‑estate market has been growing fast, with land prices rising at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 19 per cent, and projections of up to 25 per cent growth by 2035.  A study by Liases Foras titled “Ayodhya – A Rising Global Spiritual Capital” notes that big infrastructure projects, an extended international airport, and new hotels by brands such as The Leela, Taj and The Oberoi are helping turn the city into a high‑potential destination for both religious tourism and long‑term property investment. In this context, Bachchan’s repeated buys are seen as a strong signal of confidence in Ayodhya’s future.
