The reigning champions, Team India, landed in Ahmedabad from Mumbai on Friday, gearing up for the T20 World Cup 2026 Final against New Zealand, scheduled for Sunday, March 8, at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The Men in Blue secured their spot in the final for the fourth time by narrowly defeating England by seven runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the team faced a challenge from England's Jocab Bethell, who scored a remarkable 105 runs off 48 balls, nearly turning the match in England's favor. However, India's bowlers maintained their composure in the closing overs to clinch a thrilling victory.

Venue Change and Hotel Switch

Returning to the same venue where they previously lost to South Africa in the Super 8 stage, the Narendra Modi Stadium also holds memories of their defeat against Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

To shake off any negative vibes associated with the venue, Team India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opted for a different hotel. Instead of the ITC Narmada, where they stayed during the ODI World Cup final, the team has checked into the Taj Skyline in Ahmedabad. This decision was made in consultation with the team management to foster a fresh mindset ahead of the crucial match against New Zealand.

Training Adjustments and Dressing Room Change

In a unique move, Team India refrained from training during the lunar eclipse before their semifinal against England, adhering to traditional beliefs. They postponed their practice session by an hour to avoid any perceived bad luck, a decision that sparked discussions among fans and analysts.

Additionally, the team has decided to switch their dressing room at the Narendra Modi Stadium, opting for the one typically assigned to visiting teams. This change aims to distance themselves from the memories of their previous defeats at the venue. The Black Caps will occupy the home team's dressing room, which is usually designated for the local squad.

Aiming for History

On Sunday, Team India will strive to make history by becoming the first team to defend their T20 World Cup title successfully and secure a third championship. Notably, no team has ever won the T20 World Cup on home soil, adding to the significance of this match in front of a supportive home crowd.

Conversely, New Zealand will be looking to achieve their first ICC World Cup title across all formats, hoping to overcome their history of near misses in finals.
