Confidence in Tottenham Hotspur's interim manager Igor Tudor has quickly deteriorated after less than a month in charge. Tudor was appointed until the end of the campaign following Thomas Frank's dismissal, thanks to his reputation for fixing struggling teams.
However, Spurs' decision to hire the Croatian seems to have spectacularly backfired, with his arrival failing to deliver the desired effect on a squad seemingly in complete chaos. The former Juventus and Marseille manager has suffered defeat in all three of his matches with last season's Europa League champions. Spurs' stunning 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Thursday extended their winless streak to 11 Premier League games and left the Lilywhites just one point clear of the drop zone. With the north London side now facing a genuine threat of relegation, it may already be time for club bosses to axe Tudor and recruit a new manager to prevent the unimaginable. Express Sport now takes a look at a five-man shortlist of prospective bosses who could guide Tottenham to survival this season.
Sean DycheSean Dyche offers a sensible temporary solution to rescue the club from relegation. His pragmatic and no-nonsense approach won't capture the hearts of Spurs fans, but they won't care if he gets results.
Dyche boasts a wealth of experience in relegation battles, having built his reputation at Burnley and Everton. The manager is presently without a club following his sacking by Nottingham Forest in February - a move he claims he "can't understand" considering Forest would have sat 12th in the table based on points accumulated during his tenure.
Ryan Mason
The most obvious interim solution could be former player Ryan Mason. Mason has already stepped into the caretaker role on two previous occasions following managerial exits and has intimate knowledge of the club's inner workings.
His existing relationship with several squad members could make him the perfect choice to lift morale within the dressing room. Mason steered the side to 7th place during the 2020/21 campaign and took temporary charge once more between April 2023 and the end of that season.
Spurs' legendary former striker Robbie Keane has emerged as another potential option. The Irishman has formed an encouraging early coaching career, securing league titles with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
His connection to the club makes him an obvious contender if Tudor is sacked. Yet, his attacking philosophy and lack of Premier League managerial experience make him a risky choice. Keane is not believed to be interested in a purely short-term role, either.
Thiago Motta has been linked with several top European clubs after earning a reputation as one of Italy's most innovative young coaches, thanks to his work at Bologna. His effective positional system made him an appealing proposition for various clubs and one capable of implementing a modern tactical rebuild.
However, he was sacked and succeeded by Tudor in his next role at Juventus in March 2025, having struggled to produce the required results after nine months with the Serie A side. That suggests Motta is a risky choice to step in at this point in the season, with Spurs desperately in need of wins.
Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi is widely regarded as Tottenham's preferred candidate for their next permanent managerial role. He has been linked with Spurs since leaving Marseille last month and could be open to a Premier League comeback.
De Zerbi is highly respected for his tenure at Brighton, where his possession-based team played entertaining football. Yet, the Italian is unlikely to want to commit to Spurs this close to the end of the season, given their precarious situation and is more likely to step in in the summer, should relegation be avoided.
