Very little good has been heard from Indian badminton in the last few months. But a wonderful news has come from the first biggest tournament of 2026. India's badminton star Lakshya Sen has made it to the finals in the All England Championship 2026 going on in the UK city of Birmingham. Lakshya, who has been struggling for some time, defeated Canada's Victor Lai in a tough match that lasted 3 games in the men's singles semi-finals played on Saturday and secured his place in the title match of this championship after 4 years.
The challenge before Lakshya in the semi-final played on Saturday 7th March was not at all easy. To reach the final, he had to defeat Victor Lai of Canada, who had won the bronze medal in the World Championship last year and was considered to have the upper hand in this match also. But Lakshya took the lead by winning the first game 21-16. But in the second game, Victor also made a comeback and this time the competition between the two was tougher and closer, which the Canadian player won by 21-18.
Meanwhile, 24 year old Lakshya also had to struggle with fitness problems. He was facing strain in his legs and also had blisters. In such a situation, Lakshya, suffering from double pain, was facing difficulty in movement in the court. With the help of the physio, he somehow became fit enough to play and showed his courage. Lakshya defeated Victor Lai in the third and deciding game and won the semi-finals 21-16, 18-21, 21-15 and made it to the finals.
