Maximum temperatures are expected to rise in several parts of Uttar Pradesh over the coming days, with some areas likely to record readings near or above 40 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected. Forecasters attribute the warming trend to a steady increase in daytime mercury and the absence of any significant weather system affecting the region.

According to IMD’s Lucknow centre, maximum temperatures across the state could climb by two to three degrees Celsius compared with recent days, making the weather noticeably warmer than typical for this time of year. While a sustained heatwave – defined by prolonged unusually high temperatures – has not been declared, the predicted rise is part of an early warming trend that may extend into mid‑March.

Several districts are already experiencing above‑normal heat for early March. Jhansi reported one of the highest current maximums at around 36.6°C, followed by Agra at about 36.4°C and Banda near 35.2°C. Other cities including Prayagraj, Hamirpur, Meerut and Barabanki have also recorded temperatures in the low to mid‑30s, indicating regional warmth.

In the state capital of Lucknow, the maximum temperature was recently recorded at around 33.1°C, roughly 2.6 degrees above the average for this period. Minimum temperatures have also stayed above typical levels, contributing to overall warmer conditions. Forecasts suggest clear skies and largely dry weather for the state, which could allow heat to build further in the absence of cloud cover or rainfall.

Weather experts say that prolonged warmth at this stage of the season is unusual but not unprecedented. A broader forecast for parts of northwestern and central India indicates above‑normal temperatures in early March, with some areas issuing heat alerts for vulnerable groups.

Residents and visitors are advised to take standard precautions during peak daytime heat, such as staying hydrated, avoiding extended exposure to strong sunshine, and monitoring weather updates. The IMD’s outlook underscores the importance of preparedness, particularly for children, older adults, and individuals with health vulnerabilities.
