Where is the Training?
IAS officers are trained at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, also known as LBSNAA, located in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. This is where all selected candidates who pass the UPSC exam undergo their initial training together. This includes officers from the IAS, IPS, IFS, and several other central services. Here, candidates selected for the IAS service are taught how to work in government, rules and regulations, proper interaction with people, teamwork, and understanding the various circumstances of the country. Training begins with a 15-week foundation course, where officers from all services study and receive practical training together. After this, all officers are sent to different training centers according to their respective services. However, further training for IAS officers is also completed at this academy in Mussoorie.
How much money is received during training?
Officers are not paid their full salary during training. They are given a fixed monthly stipend, which, according to the Seventh Pay Commission, amounts to approximately ₹56,100 per month. However, they do not receive this full amount. Living expenses, food, clothing, and other essential amenities are deducted from this amount. After deductions, only about ₹35,000 to ₹40,000 remains.

After completing training, an IAS officer's basic salary is ₹56,100 per month. Additionally, additional compensation based on inflation, house rent, travel expenses, and medical expenses is also allocated.
