When searching for anything on the internet today, the first name that comes to mind is Google. But did you know that the search engine known worldwide today had a different name? Interestingly, the name Google wasn't chosen deliberately; it was a result of a small spelling mistake.

The story of this famous search engine begins at Stanford University in 1995. Two students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, decided to create a new system to better search for information on the Internet. Initially, their thinking differed on many issues, and they often argued, but gradually their divergent thinking blossomed into a strong partnership. This partnership later led to the creation of the world's largest search engine.

While the two students were working on this project from their dorm rooms, they developed a search system that analyzed links between websites. This means that a website's popularity and importance were measured by how many other sites linked to it. Because this system analyzed backlinks, the search engine was initially named Backrub.

After some time, they realized that the name Backrub wasn't impressive enough, so they began searching for a new name. During this time, the team considered the name Googol. Googol is a mathematical term meaning 1 followed by 100 zeros. The name was intended to convey that the search engine could handle the vast amounts of data available on the internet.

But the real twist came here. While checking the availability of the domain name, a student named Sean Anderson accidentally typed Google instead of Googol. It was a simple typo, but surprisingly, the domain name google.com was available. Larry Page liked the name and approved the misspelled name. Just hours later, the domain was registered, giving the world the name Google.

Google was officially launched on September 4, 1998. Initially, the company began operations in a small garage, but gradually grew into a global tech giant. Today, Google is not just a search engine, but also a part of the everyday lives of billions of people around the world through email, maps, cloud, and numerous digital services.

Interestingly, the company was founded on September 4, but Google celebrates its anniversary every year on September 27. On this day, the company commemorates its achievements and contributions to the internet. This name, which began with a small spelling error, has now become one of the most prominent symbols in the technology world.
