If the Iran-America war does not end, how expensive will gas cylinders become? Understand the whole thing here.

The news of increase in the price of LPG cylinders in the country and reduction in supply in some cities has increased the concern of the people. Recently, oil companies have increased the prices of both domestic and commercial gas cylinders. The government says that this situation is the effect of rising prices in the international market and the ongoing tension in the Middle East.

impact of middle east crisis

The main reason for the increase in LPG prices in India is believed to be the increasing tension between Iran and Israel. Global oil and gas prices have increased due to supply disruption in the Strait of Hormuz located near Iran. Since India imports LPG in large quantities for its requirement, the direct impact of the increase in the international market is being seen in the country as well.

India depends on imports

About 60 percent of the demand for LPG in India is met by imports. Out of this, about 80-90 percent LPG comes from Middle-Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. In such a situation, if there is any kind of problem in this area, then it immediately impacts the Indian gas market.

How much did the price of gas increase?

On March 7, 2026, oil companies increased the price of domestic LPG cylinder by about Rs 60. After this, the price of 14.2 kg non-subsidized cylinder in Delhi has become Rs 913. At the same time, the price of 19 kg commercial cylinder has increased by about Rs 114-115 to about Rs 1,883. Some hotels and restaurants in Mumbai, Bengaluru and other big cities have also complained about shortage of gas supply.

government steps

To handle the situation, the Petroleum Ministry has directed oil refineries to increase LPG production. In order to give priority to domestic consumers as well as to prevent black marketing of gas, a gap of 25 days has been fixed between cylinder booking. Important areas like hospitals and educational institutions are also being given priority.

No need to panic: Government

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that there is no shortage of gas for domestic consumers and the government is taking steps to maintain continuous supply. He has also appealed to the people to avoid panic or storing extra cylinders.
