A major update is coming for users of the popular Cashback SBI Card, as SBI Card has announced revised cashback and reward rules effective April 1, 2026. The changes are set to reduce the maximum cashback benefits and introduce stricter redemption conditions, directly impacting how cardholders earn and use rewards.
If you are using this card for regular spending, here’s a complete breakdown of what is changing and how it may affect your savings.
The most significant update is a reduction in the maximum cashback limit per billing cycle. Currently, users can earn up to ₹5,000 cashback in a statement cycle. However, from April 1, this cap will be reduced to ₹4,000.
This means cardholders will effectively receive 20% less maximum cashback compared to the existing structure. Once the new ₹4,000 limit is reached, no additional cashback will be credited for that cycle.
While the cashback percentage remains unchanged, SBI Card has introduced stricter caps based on spending type:
Online Transactions:
5% cashback, capped at ₹2,000 per billing cycle
Offline Transactions (POS):
1% cashback, capped at ₹2,000 per billing cycle
In total, the combined cashback cannot exceed ₹4,000 in a single statement period.
This change means that even if you spend heavily online or offline, your earnings will now be restricted within these defined limits.
Under the current system, users could earn cashback up to ₹5,000 per cycle without any strict split between online and offline spending caps. This offered more flexibility and higher earning potential.
The revised rules, however, introduce tighter control on how cashback is accumulated, making it essential for users to plan their spending more carefully.
Along with cashback changes, SBI Card has also updated the reward redemption process for certain credit cards.
From April 1, reward points can only be redeemed in fixed multiples of 4,000. This means users can redeem points in slabs such as:
4,000 points
8,000 points
12,000 points
16,000 points, and so on
Additionally, the maximum redemption limit per month has been capped at 60,000 points.
This change reduces flexibility for users who previously could redeem smaller amounts of points as per their convenience.
Not all SBI cards will be affected by the updated redemption policy. The following cards are excluded:

PhonePe SBI Card SELECT BLACK
Users of these cards can continue to enjoy the existing reward redemption system without the new restrictions.
There is no change in how cashback is credited to users. The process remains simple and automatic:

No manual claim or redemption process is required
