New Delhi: Amid ongoing border tensions with neighboring China, the Indian government has taken a significant step toward improving bilateral relations. Experienced diplomat Vikram Doraiswami was appointed as India's next Ambassador to China on Thursday.

Experienced diplomat

A 1992 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Vikram Doraiswami is currently serving as India's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK). He has previously served successfully as India's representative in several countries, including Bangladesh.

Emphasis on improving relations

Relations between India and China have been strained for the past four years due to the volatile situation along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh. By sending a senior officer to Beijing during such a challenging period, the central government aims to rebuild diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Doraiswami will succeed Pradeep Kumar Rawat, the current Indian Ambassador to China. The Ministry of External Affairs officially announced that Vikram Doraiswami will assume charge in Beijing shortly.
