New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said the state is preparing a population management policy aimed at boosting population growth. At the same time he also underlined the importance of reviving traditional joint family systems during Ugadi celebrations.

Speaking at an event, Naidu stressed that strengthening family structures is key to ensuring better care for elders and maintaining social balance. He said the government is making efforts to encourage a return to joint family values, linking them to stability within society.

New initiatives and goals

The Chief Minister noted that the upcoming policy will focus on increasing the state’s population, signalling a shift in approach as authorities look to address emerging demographic concerns. He indicated that the government is working on measures that would support families and promote population growth in the coming years. He said schemes such as ‘Talli ki Vandanam’, which offers Rs 15,000 annual financial aid for school going children, will support family growth and social security.

Alongside this, Naidu also highlighted the broader role of family systems in social welfare, saying that stronger familial bonds can provide support mechanisms for both the young and the elderly. He emphasised that reviving such systems would contribute to overall societal well-being. “Through a population management policy, we are taking steps to increase population again…we must strengthen families and values in society,” Naidu said while addressing Ugadi celebrations organised by the government in Vijayawada.

The announcement reflects the state government’s attempt to combine policy measures with social messaging, as it looks to recalibrate its approach towards population and family structures. He underscored that employment generation remains a priority, with a job calendar released for 10,060 posts, along with recruitment of nearly 16,000 teachers and over 5,700 police constables. Naidu claimed that about 30,600 government jobs and over 6.2 lakh private sector jobs have been created.

The Chief Minister also said regional economic corridors centred around Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Amaravati will drive development, along with improved logistics connectivity. He noted that over Rs 1,900 crore has been provided so far to families displaced due to the Polavaram project, while criticising the previous YSRCP government between 2019 and 2024 for not extending compensation.
