New Delhi: A viral video has brought a 15-year-old girl from Bihar into spotlight, as everyone has been touched by her plight and resilience. The video has showed her going to school despite a locomotor disability, and it has earned the lavish praise of netizens.
Soni Kumari, from Hussainpur village in Gopalganj, travels almost two kilometres every day to school, and often drags herself due to lack of support. The viral video has ensured that the district administration has given her a tricycle. However, the vehicle became unusable soon after and her struggle came under the spotlight once again.
Due to locomotor disability, Soni cannot walk properly, but that has not prevented her from going to school every day. She has to cover the distance in a painful and physically demanding way as there is no proper mobility aid. A user on X with the account name The Nalanda Index took to the social media platform and posted the video that showed Soni’s hardships.
The caption of the video read, “This is Soni from Gopalganj , the same woman whose story went viral recently. Instead of providing her with a proper electric wheelchair, authorities handed over a substandard one that started falling apart within just a week.”

It added, “This raises a serious question about the system. When even equipment meant for disabled people turns out to be of such poor quality, it clearly points toward deep-rooted corruption and negligence. I have personally witnessed how low-grade assistive equipment is often distributed to disabled individuals in Bihar. It is heartbreaking to see that schemes meant to support the most vulnerable are being compromised.”
