Major Injury Blow for Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have received disappointing news ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, as Sam Curran has been sidelined for the entire tournament due to an injury. This season was anticipated to be Curran's debut with the Royals after his transfer from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he was traded alongside Ravindra Jadeja, marking a significant player exchange. The English all-rounder, who was named Player of the Tournament at the 2022 T20 World Cup, was expected to earn a salary of Rs. 2.40 crore, matching his previous earnings with CSK following the 2025 mega auction.

Details on Curran's Injury

According to reports from Espncricinfo, Curran has been ruled out due to a 'suspected groin injury.' The specifics regarding when he sustained the injury and its severity remain unclear. His last appearance was during the T20 World Cup semi-final against India at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on March 5. The Royals are currently looking to sign a replacement player, but it is yet to be determined who that will be. Curran's absence is a significant loss for the team, especially considering his impressive performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup, where he scored 167 runs across eight matches and took six wickets, earning accolades for his death bowling skills. Earlier this year, he also led the Desert Vipers to victory in the 2026 ILT20, securing the Player of the Tournament title with 397 runs in 12 matches and seven wickets. In the 2025 season, Curran had a brief stint with CSK, participating in only five matches as the team finished at the bottom of the standings.
