New Delhi. Due to busy life and deteriorating eating habits, the ‘silent killer’ diabetes is now becoming a problem in every household. Crores of people in India are vulnerable to this disease. Experts believe that the increase in blood sugar is not only to eating sweets but also to stress and physical inactivity. If its symptoms are recognized in time, then it can be controlled to a great extent with some special things present in the kitchen.
The signs of diabetes seem very common at first, but ignoring them can prove costly:
Feeling thirsty again and again: Frequent dry throat and thirst not quenched even after drinking water.
Excessive urination: Frequent going to the toilet especially at night.
Sudden weight loss: Rapid loss of body weight without any dieting.
Fatigue and weakness: Feeling lack of energy in the body even after adequate sleep.
Blurry vision: Sudden blurring of vision.
Delay in wound healing: Small cuts or scratches taking longer than usual to heal.
Fenugreek Seeds:
Fenugreek contains high amounts of fiber which slows down digestion and prevents the absorption of sugar.
How to take: Soak one spoon fenugreek seeds in a glass of water overnight. Drink this water on an empty stomach in the morning and chew the grains.
Bitter Gourd Juice:
Bitter gourd contains elements like ‘charantin’ and ‘polypeptide-P’ which act like natural insulin.
How to take: Drink half a cup of fresh bitter gourd juice every morning on an empty stomach. It helps in activating the pancreas.
Cinnamon Powder:
Cinnamon improves insulin sensitivity in the body.
How to take: Mix half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in lukewarm water and drink it or add it to your salads and tea (without sugar).
Jamun Seeds:
Jamun seeds contain ‘jambolin’ which prevents the conversion of starch into sugar.
How to take: Dry the jamun seeds and make their powder. Take one spoon of powder with water every morning and evening.
Amla & Turmeric:
This mixture is considered a panacea for keeping blood sugar stable.
How to take: Mix a pinch of turmeric in two spoons of Amla juice and drink it in the morning.
Regular walking: Walk briskly for at least 30-45 minutes daily. This allows the muscles to use glucose as energy.
Drink enough water: By keeping the body hydrated, the kidneys are able to remove excess sugar through urine.
Stay stress free: Stress hormones directly increase blood sugar. For this, take help of pranayam and meditation.
Fiber rich food: Include green leafy vegetables, bran-rich flour and whole grains in your diet.
