Premium Petrol vs Normal Petrol: As soon as you go to the petrol pump, you see two types of nozzles on the machine, one normal and the other premium. Salesmen also often ask, 'Sir, put normal or power?' Many people think that pouring expensive oil will make the car run like a bullet, while some consider it to be just a waste of money. Today, on March 20, oil companies have increased the price of premium petrol by Rs 2.35 per litre, making it costlier than normal petrol by about Rs 10-12. In such a situation, the question arises whether premium petrol is necessary for your vehicle? Should expensive petrol really be filled and how is it different from normal petrol?
Let us understand this with an example. Normal petrol is 'lentil-rice' for your vehicle, which provides the necessary energy to run it. At the same time, premium petrol is a kind of 'health drink' in which some special things (called additives) are added. These things keep the internal parts of your engine clean and prevent carbon deposits. But the biggest difference is the octane number. The octane number of normal petrol is 91, while the octane number of premium petrol is 95 or 97.
The higher the octane number, the more timely the petrol will burn inside the engine. If the octane is low, the petrol may burn prematurely, causing a knocking sound from the engine. This sound is very dangerous for the engine.
Normal Car or Bike (100cc-1500cc)
It completely depends on the engine of your vehicle. If you have normal cars like Activa, Splendor, Alto or Swift, then you do not need premium petrol. Normal 91 octane petrol is perfect for them. Adding expensive oil will neither give you more mileage nor more pickup. It would just be a waste of money.
luxury or sports car-bike
If you have a BMW, Mercedes or any high-performance bike, then you should fill only premium petrol. The engines of these vehicles are very powerful and they require 95 octane fuel to function properly.
Check your vehicle's owner's manual or look inside the fuel tank cap. If 'Recommended: 95 Octane' is written there, then go for premium only, if not, then it is not necessary for your car.
Even if your car is normal, experts believe that filling the entire tank with premium petrol once every 3-4 thousand kilometers can be beneficial. Because the cleaning agents found in premium petrol clean the layer of carbon deposited on the fuel injector and valves of the engine. This makes the engine run smoother and there may be a slight improvement in mileage. It acts like a kind of 'servicing' for the engine of your old car.
