Switzerland has currently banned America from placing new orders related to arms and ammunition. Switzerland says that it is following its policy of neutrality, hence cannot give weapons to any country which is involved in any war. The government said that since the conflict in the Middle East escalated since February 28, no new licenses have been issued for America. According to Switzerland's rules, it cannot sell weapons to any country involved in an international war.
Switzerland has also increased the strictness regarding its airspace. He has started monitoring the flights of American military planes. If any flight is more than normal or is related to the Iran war, then it will not be allowed. Only those flights will be approved which have nothing to do with this conflict.
Last year, America was the second largest country purchasing arms from Switzerland. About 10% of the total exports went to America. Its price was approximately 94.2 million Swiss francs i.e. approximately 119 million dollars. This included air vehicles, ammunition and small arms. However, the old licenses which have already been given and which are not directly related to this war, will continue to be used.
The Swiss government has formed a special team for this, which will review the situation from time to time and decide what further steps to take. The government has also said that such items, which can be used for both military and civilian purposes, will also be examined. In view of the sanctions imposed on Iran, these things will be kept under special watch.
Switzerland's policy of neutrality has already become a problem for its arms industry. It had prevented its allies from sending Swiss weapons to Ukraine, causing losses to many companies. Because of this, some companies started their production in other countries.
To change this situation, a proposal was made in December to relax the law, so that 25 western countries including America could be given weapons even in times of war. But this new law has not yet been implemented. A referendum on this could happen by April.
