Shaheen Afridi’s performance is continuously under question since T20 World Cup 2026. In this tournament, Pakistan could not even reach the semi-finals, after which the team was heavily criticized. After this, the situation did not change even in the ODI series against Bangladesh and the team had to face defeat by 2-1.

Meanwhile, Latif made a big attack and said, ‘Now people are saying that Shaheen should not be the ODI captain. But in my view, he does not deserve a place even in the T20 team. Earlier he could have been made T20 captain, but now the time has passed. He also claimed that a kind of campaign is being run to make Shaheen the T20 captain, with which he completely disagrees.

This statement of Latif has started a new debate in Pakistan cricket. Especially when Shaheen is considered the main fast bowler of the team and has been an important part of the team for a long time. But poor form has raised questions about his place.

Amidst this controversy, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has also targeted the team management and selection committee. He directly blamed the selectors for the defeat against Bangladesh.

Afridi said, ‘You saw the performance in the T20 World Cup and then lost the series to Bangladesh also. In my view, the selection committee is responsible for this. Despite having so many experienced people, you are not able to understand who should be made the captain in which format.

He further said that changes are being made continuously in the team in the name of surgery, but it is not beneficial. You are giving opportunity to such players who hardly played a few first class matches. The level of domestic cricket is also not strong enough to consistently produce international level players.

Continuous poor performance and rising questions regarding internal decisions have increased the problems of Pakistan Cricket Board. Now it will be interesting to see how the team management responds to these criticisms and what changes are seen in the times to come.
