In the year 2026, the four-day festival of Chaiti Chhath will start from March 22 (Sunday) and continue till March 25 (Wednesday). During these four days, devotees worship Sun God and Chhathi Maiya with utmost rules and devotion.

Chaiti Chhath starts with Nahay-Khay. On this day, fasting people take bath in the morning and purify the house and the place of worship. Lord Surya and family deities are worshipped. Pumpkin and rice (satvik food) are consumed in food. This day is considered a symbol of purification of body and mind, which strengthens the foundation of fasting.

The day of Kharna is the most important stage of Chhath fast. The devotees keep fast throughout the day and take Prasad in the evening by offering jaggery kheer and roti. After this, the 36-hour waterless fast begins, in which even water is not consumed.

The most emotional and grand scene of Chhath Puja is seen on this day. The devotees go to the river, pond or ghat and offer Arghya to the setting sun. Fruits, thekua and puja materials are offered in the soup. It is believed that worshiping the setting sun brings an end to the difficulties and sufferings of life.

Usha Arghya is performed on the last day of Chaiti Chhath. Arghya will be offered to the rising sun at around 06:20 in the morning. After this the fast is broken. Offering Arghya to the rising sun is considered a symbol of new life, energy and positive beginnings.
