A new chapter has been added in the cricket history of Purvanchal. In the MCC High Performance Camp being organized for the first time in Gorakhpur, Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas, one of the world's greatest fast bowlers, and renowned coach Jwala Singh gave mantras for victory to the young players. Through this camp, local talents are getting international level experience and training. Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan, who was present as the chief guest during the camp, encouraged the players.

He said- Today it is a matter of pride for Gorakhpur that great players like Chaminda Vaas have come here. Cricket is the most popular sport in the country today and players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma are role models for our youth. I believe that every child should be involved in sports along with studies. Whoever plays well will definitely get a bigger platform.

Chaminda Vaas, famous for her accurate line-length in international cricket, tested the skills of young cricketers. He said, 'I have come here to see the bowling ability of the players. In today's era, youth are more attracted towards T20 format, but whatever the format, two things are most important: fitness and discipline. If you focus on these two things, you can be successful in both Test and T20. Former player of Mumbai Ranji team and experienced coach Vinayak Samant is also providing his services in this camp.

Chaminda Vaas's visit to Gorakhpur is also special for the youth because he has some cricket records in his name, which no one has been able to break till date.

1. That charismatic over of the World Cup (14 February 2003)

There was a match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh during the World Cup in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Chaminda Vaas surprised the world by taking a hat-trick in the first three balls of the very first over of the match. Hannan Sarkar bowled on the first ball, Mohammad Ashraful caught and bowled on the second ball and Ehsanul Haq caught in the slip on the third ball.

This is the only time in cricket history when a hat-trick has been scored on the first three balls of the first over of an international match. Vaas did not stop here, he also took the fourth wicket on the fifth ball of the same over.

2. Best spell in ODI history (8 wickets)

Vaas wreaked havoc against Zimbabwe in Colombo in December 2001. He took 8 wickets for just 19 runs. This also included a hat-trick, which is still the best bowling figures in the history of ODI cricket. Due to his lethal bowling, the entire Zimbabwe team was bundled out for just 38 runs.
