Rules applicable only to stalls at stations

IRCTC has clarified that these new guidelines are only for shops and catering units located at railway stations. These rules are currently not enforced for food preparation in Pantry Car. Stall operators at the stations have been asked to change their operations immediately to overcome the problems caused by the gas shortage.

Stocking of ‘Ready to Eat’ (RTE) food is mandatory

If it is not possible to cook fresh food due to non-availability of gas, the railway administration has taken precautions so that the passengers do not have to starve. All stall managers have been strongly advised to stock large quantities of ‘Ready to Eat’ (RTE) i.e. ready to eat foods. Due to this, even if cooking is closed due to lack of gas, food packets will be easily available to passengers.

Mandatory to inform the department

IRCTC has said in its guidelines that there should be no impact on passenger services. If cooking in a catering unit is completely stopped due to gas shortage, it is mandatory to inform the concerned department immediately. In such cases, instructions are given to maintain uninterrupted service using microwave and induction as alternative arrangements.

Railways ready for the convenience of passengers

The railway administration is already geared up to overcome this situation created by the energy crisis. Special attention is being paid to the inventory level to avoid shortage of food items at the stations. Recognizing the potential threat posed by the scarcity of gas cylinders, the only option left to catering directors is to turn to modern alternatives.
