The Uttar Pradesh government has taken another step toward enhancing women’s safety with the launch of a unique digital initiative called “The Shadow” app, developed by students of the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science.

Designed primarily to safeguard female students, the app functions as a comprehensive security and academic management system, staying connected with students like a “shadow.”

UPSIFS Deputy Director Chiranjeev Mukherjee said the app goes beyond academic tracking and focuses strongly on student safety through authorized movement monitoring.

The platform digitally records campus entry, exit, and leave requests, providing real-time updates to the administration. It also integrates attendance, assignments, exam performance, and academic progress—bringing students, parents, and teachers onto a single, transparent system.

Key Features of ‘The Shadow’ App

Parent-First Approval System: Any request—especially by female students—to leave campus requires prior parental approval, adding an extra layer of safety and trust.

SOS Emergency Alert: A single tap instantly notifies both parents and institute authorities in case of danger, ensuring quick response.

QR Code-Based Digital Gate Pass: Helps prevent unauthorized entry and enhances campus security.

The app has been developed by B.Tech students Harsh and Aditya Mishra under the guidance of Assistant Professor Dr. Neha Singh.

Officials described “The Shadow” as a strong example of how technology can be used to improve safety and empower young women. Acting as a “digital companion,” the app continuously monitors student safety while also supporting their academic journey.
