Between air fryers, slow cookers and wood fired ovens, it sometimes feels like nobody is actually bothering to use their actual oven any more.
Pizza ovens are another trendy cooking appliance that have become increasingly popular in recent years, both for indoor electric models and outdoor wood or gas fired pizza ovens.
But what many don't account for is how much these appliancescost to run per year, on average.
While electric is definitely cheaper than buying wood for a burner model, running a pizza oven can still add money to your household bill.
From April, the cost of gas and electricity is actually going down by 6.6% thanks to a drop in the Ofgem price cap which is already locked in place. However, cheap fixes are already vanishing from the market thanks to the conflict in the Middle East pushing wholesale prices up, which could mean that those coming off cheap fixes right now as they end will find themselves having to pay the price on the price cap.
And from July, the price cap is forecast to rise by around 10% thanks to the recent conflict, according to the latest estimates from forecast firm Cornwall Insight.
Based on the April price cap figures, households can expect to pay £144.07 per year to run a typical electric pizza oven for one hour per day for a year.
One of the leading electric pizza ovens on the market uses 1.6kWh of electricity, which means it will cost 40p per hour to run, which adds up to £12.01 per month for one hour per day, or £144.07 per year.
Catering equipment supplier Canmac has guidance for pizza oven buyers about what to look for.
It says: "Big names like Gozney, Ooni, and La Hacienda lead the UK market. They offer affordable ovens for all cooking styles and budgets. Small models fit well in small kitchens, while bigger ones are perfect for outdoor cooking.
"When looking at prices, think about what you need. Electric ovens are easy to use, gas ones heat up fast, and wood-fired ovens give a real taste of cooking.
"It's important to do your research and find the oven that fits your cooking style and budget. You can find a wide range of ovens online or in kitchen stores.
"When you search for portable pizza ovens, you'll find many options at different prices. Entry-level models usually start at £100-£300. They're a great way to start making pizzas at home without spending a lot."
It says that gas fired pizza ovens typically cost between £15 to £40 a month to run, while wood fired pizza ovens cost between £10 and £30, which actually makes electric pizza ovens the cheapest of the lot.
It adds: "The cost of fuel varies a lot between different ovens. Wood-fired ovens use logs or pellets, while gas ovens use propane or natural gas. Electric ovens use electricity, which can increase your bills."
