Tottenham's four emergency options as 3-0 hammering leaves Spurs in last chance saloon

Tottenham's relegation crisis has deepened following their winless streak extending to 13 matches with a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Igor Jesus' first-half header alongside strikes from Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi delivered Forest a vital three points, enabling them to climb above Spurs, who have slipped to 17th position.

Igor Tudor's side sit one point clear of West Ham, courtesy of Aston Villa defeating the Hammers at Villa Park, but haven't secured a domestic victory since December 28, when Thomas Frank remained in charge.

Croatian interim boss Tudor presided over a win in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid during the week, following a creditable away stalemate at Liverpool the previous weekend. However, that momentum was shattered by fellow relegation candidates Forest, with Spurs enduring substantial jeers from supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium come the final whistle.

Tudor has now collected merely one point from a possible 15 in the Premier League. Tottenham possess four emergency alternatives should they trigger the panic button on Tudor during the international break...

Harry Redknapp

He's been absent from management since 2017, and it's 14 years since his departure from Tottenham, yet 79-year-old Redknapp represents one figure who might enter the fray for Spurs' remaining seven fixtures. Speaking earlier this month at the Cheltenham Festival, the Englishman said: "They know where I am if they need me. They need somebody to go in there and give them a lift and make them believe in themselves.

"They're bang in trouble, I must be truthful." Redknapp experienced a prosperous period at Spurs between 2008 and 2012, securing top-four finishes in two of his three complete seasons at the helm.

Tim Sherwood

Another figure who has expressed his willingness to return to Spurs given the opportunity. The 57-year-old Sky Sports pundit managed 28 matches as Spurs boss during the 2013-14 season following Andre Villas-Boas's dismissal, before being relieved of his duties that May.

Sherwood told Sky Sports: "It's a club I love. I know a lot about it. I spent many years there in different capacities. It needs someone to give them a lift at the moment, whether that's me or whoever." However, he hasn't held a managerial position since 2015, meaning Sherwood would constitute an enormous risk despite his ties to the club.

Ryan Mason

Could Mason undertake a third temporary spell as Spurs manager? Dismissed by West Brom in January, the former midfielder has remained out of work since. He assumed control following both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte's sackings in April 2021 and April 2023, respectively.

Mason secured victory in six of his 13 fixtures in charge, whilst also suffering six defeats, during those two periods.

With his standing having taken a hit from his unsuccessful 27-game tenure at the Hawthorns, the 34-year-old would undoubtedly embrace an opportunity to manage in the Premier League once more. Rescuing Spurs would significantly enhance his credentials.

Sean Dyche

Dyche endured just 25 matches at Nottingham Forest before his dismissal in February, though he constitutes another emergency appointment option. A pragmatic manager with a track record of building industrious sides who are difficult to overcome, Dyche's approach may not prove palatable amongst the Spurs faithful.

However, should he be prepared to embrace another top-flight challenge, which are unlikely to materialise elsewhere following his departures from Everton last year and Forest this term, he could potentially secure Spurs a handful of draws and wins.

That said, reports from earlier this month indicated the 54-year-old would be hesitant to enter the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
