
Chaiti Chhath Kharna 2026: The great festival of Chhath is dedicated to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. A unique confluence of nature and faith is seen in this great festival. This great festival falling in the month of Chaitra is called Chaiti Chhath. The great festival of Chaiti Chhath lasts for four days. It started yesterday i.e. on 22nd March. Yesterday this great festival started with Nahay-Khay. On the day of Nahay-Khay, the fasting people prepare and consume Prasad of pumpkin vegetable, gram dal and rice. Today is the second day of the great festival. Kharna is celebrated on the second day of Chhath festival.
Kharna means purity. Special care is taken of purity on this day, so that there is no hindrance in the worship. On the day of Kharna, devotees prepare Prasad in an earthen stove. Mango wood is used to light the stove. On this day, after fasting for the whole day, offerings are made to the Gods and Goddesses and Chhathi Maiya in the evening. After this the Prasad is accepted.
After receiving the Prasad in the evening on the day of Kharna, the 36-hour waterless fast of the devotees begins. This evening the devotees will receive Prasad and their 36-hour waterless fast will begin. After this, tomorrow on March 24, the fasting women will offer Sandhya Arghya i.e. Arghya to the setting sun. Then on March 25, on the day of Usha Arghya, this difficult fast will be broken by offering Arghya to the rising sun. With this, this four-day long festival of Chaiti Chhath will end.
On the day of Kharna, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. Do not eat or drink anything from sunrise to sunset. Clean the place of worship and sprinkle Ganga water. Take bath after sunset and wear clean clothes. Make kheer of jaggery, rice and milk by burning mango wood on a new earthen stove. Along with this, you can also make ghee coated roti. Offer kheer, roti, fruits etc. to Chhathi Maiya and Sun God. First of all, accept the Prasad prepared for Vrati Kharna. After eating the Prasad, a 36-hour waterless fast will begin, which will end on the fourth day after offering Arghya to the Sun.
