A case of bike theft has come to light from Rohini area of Delhi, which has surprised both the police and showroom owners. Here a young man very cleverly used to run away with an expensive bike on the pretext of test drive. After several such incidents, it was only when the police took the help of technology that the entire gang was exposed.
In this case, the police have arrested an MBA student, who had stolen bikes from different showrooms in Delhi-NCR in a similar manner. Six expensive motorcycles have also been recovered from the accused.
According to the information, a complaint of bike theft was lodged at Vijay Vihar police station on March 19. The complaint was made by Deepak Khanna, a salesperson at the Royal Enfield showroom. He told the police that a youth came to the showroom and took the bike for a test drive, but did not return for a long time. Initially it seemed that perhaps the young man would return after some time, but when a lot of time passed and there was no trace of him, the showroom lodged a complaint with the police.
In view of such complaints being received continuously, the police had advised showrooms to install GPS trackers in the bikes given for test drives. This time the same plan worked. During investigation, it was found that the bike which the youth had taken for a test drive had a GPS tracker installed in it. With the help of tracker, the location of the bike was found in Bhalswa Dairy area. After this, the police team under the leadership of station in-charge Manohar Lal arrested the accused with technical help. The accused has been identified as Puneet Satija.
During interrogation, the accused made many shocking revelations. He told that he used to steal bikes from showrooms in different areas of Delhi-NCR in a similar manner. Police have recovered six expensive motorcycles on his trail. Five of these bikes were recovered from Burari area.
According to the police, 29-year-old Puneet Satija is a resident of Rewari, Haryana and is an MBA student. He told that while studying BBA, he had interned as a salesman in a Royal Enfield showroom for six months. During this time, he had understood what were the weaknesses in the security system during the test drive and he started taking advantage of the same.
During interrogation, the accused told that his father had a car accessories business in Rewari. Later he himself tried to start this business afresh, but he suffered a loss of about Rs 25 lakh. As financial constraints increased, he chose the path of bike theft to earn easy money. At present, the police is investigating the entire matter and trying to find out where the accused used to sell these stolen bikes.
