The box office has seen many big openings before, but what is happening with Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge right now feels slightly different, even a bit unexpected in terms of scale. The Ranveer Singh starrer, directed by Aditya Dhar, has not just opened strong, it has gone on to rewrite several records within its first few days, something trade experts are still trying to fully process.
As per Sacnilk, the film has closed its extended four-day opening weekend with numbers going beyond Rs 700 crore worldwide gross. The India net collection alone has reached Rs 454.12 crore in just four days, which is a huge figure by any standard. These numbers have already pushed the film ahead of earlier benchmarks set by Jawan and Pathaan, both headlined by Shah Rukh Khan.
To give some context, Jawan had earned Rs 286.16 crore in its first four days, while Pathaan collected Rs 220 crore in the same period. However, the film is still slightly behind Pushpa 2, which had touched Rs 518 crore in four days.
These are not small milestones, and achieving all of them in the first few days has clearly put the film in a very strong position going ahead.
However, Dhurandhar 2 has changed that narrative in a big way. According to Koimoi, on Eid day alone, the film collected Rs 117 crore, which is far ahead of Bharat’s Rs 42.30 crore. It also surpassed the combined Eid day collections of Salman’s recent films Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan and Sikandar.
It has already moved past the lifetime collections of films like Gadar 2, Jailer, and Salaar, which again shows how strong its opening phase has been.
Director Aditya Dhar, while speaking at a screening, said, “Thank you to those who believed in me, starting from Jyoti Deshpande, and of course, my HODs, my cast members, actors, and everyone who has given their heart and soul to the film.” He added, “I am overwhelmed with all the responses coming in and even the memes. The film continues the story of an Indian spy navigating through Pakistan to dismantle a terror network, building on the narrative set in the first installment.
