Fans of crime and thriller shows are in for a treat as a 'captivating' detective drama has announced its comeback date.

Set and shot in Jersey, the popular series Bergerac, boasting an impressive 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is set to return for its second series on 16 April.

The programme is a contemporary reinterpretation of the iconic Jersey-based crime drama, following the troubled detective Jim Bergerac, portrayed by Brassic star Damien Molony.

The original Bergerac television series aired in the 80s, featuring John Nettles as the fictional detective Jim Bergerac. It was revived in 2025, with Damien, 42, taking on the lead role.

A synopsis for the second series teases: "Following the gripping events in series one, Jim Bergerac (played by Damien Molony) is back facing the most challenging case of his career when shocking events unfold at a wedding reception on Jersey

"Jim's even tentatively started dating, with Kim's (Chloé Sweetlove) encouragement, although he still feels the hole in his life since his wife died.

"Privately he doesn't hold out much hope of meeting someone and is doing it more for Kim's benefit than his own. But then he meets Nicola (Camilla Beeput), a visitor to the island, and they connect. Could this be the start of something for Bergerac?

"Romance is also in the air for Bergerac's formidable mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford (Zoë Wanamaker), who has found a new man in her life, the effervescent, charming Nigel (Adrian Edmondson).

"But in the same breath as meeting Nicola, Bergerac is pulled into his next big case when the groom at a wedding reception is found murdered in his hotel room. Could the groom's final words hold the key to the killer's identity? Jersey needs their best detective to start digging."

Audiences will undoubtedly be thrilled by the announcement as the first series received outstanding reviews, including a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Following series one, one viewer remarked: "I loved it. I hope there is a season 2." whilst a separate account stated: "Loved it. Bergerac is a great character and the actors are all well rounded. Haven't seen the original but judged on its own it's a fantastic free to air crime drama. Hope there is a follow up season."

Another commented: "Have just binged this and can't wait for the next season!", a different account noted: "I loved the performances of all the major actors. It is nice to see Damien Molony in a lead role. He does a brilliant job" whilst another viewer confessed they were "glued to the box" whilst watching the series.

Meanwhile, another programme watcher applauded: "It's good to see Damien Maloney in a lead role. I enjoyed the series - better than the original series." whilst another fan contributed: "Absolutely loved this new series of Bergerac."

Bergerac is returning to U and U&DRAMA on 16 April.
