Surat Municipal Corporation has announced recruitment (SMC Recruitment 2026) for many posts including Mechanical Engineer, Automobile Engineer, Town Planning Officer, Food Safety Officer. The total number of vacancies is 2295. The vacancy is divided according to different posts and categories. Candidates will have to pay a fee of Rs 500 to fill the form. The application fee for SC/ST/OBC NCL candidates is Rs 250. PWD candidates have been exempted from fee payment.
The selection process will be determined by SMC, which will vary for different posts. Written examination or practical skill test may be organized for technical and specialist posts. After this, test interview and language proficiency test will also be organized. Finally selected candidates will be invited for document verification and final appointment.
Qualification has been prescribed differently for different posts. To apply for the post of Mechanical and Automobile Engineer, candidates must have BE/B.Tech degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. Apart from this, along with computer knowledge, they should also have proficiency in Gujarati or Hindi language. Candidates with BE/B.Tech (Civil)/M.Tech or ME (Civil)/B.Arch/M.Arch/PG or PG Diploma (City/Town/regional) qualification can apply for the post of Town Planning Officer. Must have knowledge of Gujarati/Hindi language.
To apply for the post of Food Safety Officer, one must have a Masters degree in the relevant field. One year PG Diploma holders in Food Safety and Quality Assurance can also fill the form. Apart from this, BE/B.Tech candidates in Food/Dairy/Biotech Oil/Processing discipline can also fill the form. For the post of X-Ray Technician, it is mandatory to have a Bachelor’s degree in Science. Apart from this, it is also necessary to do X-Ray Technician course from an institute recognized by the government. Must also have computer knowledge and knowledge of Hindi or Gujarati language.
The age limit prescribed for applying for technical or specialist posts like Engineer, Food Safety Officer, X-Ray Technician etc. is maximum 35 years. The age limit prescribed for the post of Planning Officer is 45 years. Under government rules, reserved category candidates will also be given age relaxation.
